A variety of payment methods available for the purchase of permits to travel through most major cities worldwide. One of the most used is the London Oyster Card.

Presented to the public in July 2003, the Oyster card is a contactless smart card that can be recharged in different locations such as counters across London's rail network, ATMs, points of travel information, online or by phone.

It is not unique: the Octopus card was introduced in Hong Kong in 1997 as the first contactless smart card in the world. There were also early prototype versions.

More than 10 million Oyster cards had been issued by March 2007, and the number continues to grow. They are credit card size and act as a travel permit for over 80% of all trips run by Transport for London.

They make life much easier for people regularly travel to London. Not only can they hold season tickets, they can also act as a pay-as-you-go cards and travel cards for buses. They can contain values of electronic money in the same manner as a store card pre-paid.

Where can I use Oyster cards?

  • London buses have a flat rate to fixed rate; Oyster cards can be used to pay for this position by touching the yellow card to the validator as you board;
  • London Trams operate a similar process for London buses, except at Wimbledon where the card must be used to access the gates open so you can get to the point of embarkation;
  • They are also accepted by bus from the river, but a ticket inspector arrives with a scanner to scan handle the card and deduct payment;
  • The two rail services and underground must swipe their card at the beginning and end of each trip to pay a fair or correct to use their season ticket. Most stations have scanners attached to obstacles when you enter or exit the station, although some smaller stations have self Oyster card readers.

As already discussed, the cards can be used to maintain or subscriptions can be completed and used to pay for personal travel in the same manner as a mobile phone on a pay-as-you-go offer can be completed before a phone call is made. In May 2010 it is estimated that 16.5 million pay-as-you-go Oyster cards have been purchased but not used during the past year. The average amount of money stored in each card is £ 1.80, resulting in nearly £ 30m, unused.

With such high absorption, put your drawing on the holders of the Oyster card is an effective way to promote your brand. Corporate promotional items such as Oyster card holders and wallets, printed with your artwork or engraved with your logo or design Business is a powerful marketing tool.
