Can anyone give suggestions on a ski area with its own village to the lifts in the southern or central Vermont? I had the idea that Okemo had its own village with an elevator that was the point, but it is not clear from the website. Did I miss? I want a place where non-skiers can enjoy a village with stuff to do, but with decent skiing too.
Not Killington - Killington and I do not have to enough time.
Okemo has the town of Ludlow at the base of the access road. There is no real base village.
Your best bet in VT for this feature is probably Stratton. At most, if not all, other ski areas in VT there are at least a short drive from the base of the flag in the village. You even have to drive / ride some to Killington. Stowe is another option for you and also gives you access to Smuggler's skiing without driving. Stowe, you can drive / day trip to Sugarbush, Mad River & Jay.
You can also try the North Conway, New Hampshire. a short distance from Bretton Woods, Attitash / Bear Peak, Wildcat, Cranmore and others.
Good Luck!
Stratton has a large village. I skied all my life and now I work there. Its shops are a spa (my mother loves the game), and restaurants. Its literally a few steps from the slopes. Good variety of skiing whatever your ability is.

Also, if you ever want to go further north, Tremblant in Canada has a large village and great skiing
Stratton has a nice village at the foot of the mountain ..

Stratton also has some of the best snow and grooming for the east coast
Stratton is the only station in southern VT with a resort at the base which has shops and restaurants. If you've been to other property and loved ones of Intrawest, Stratton you'll be fine.
Okemo has a great hotel at the base of Jackson Gore area, but no real village. I'm not 100% sure of everything that is in the Jackson area basis Gore. Killington and Mount Snow villages also lack. They all hotels with restaurants and bars, but the stores are located in the ski lodge and has no other place to shop.
Killington has a shuttle service and the bus to take people up and down the access road if you do not want to drive. Everything is within five minutes drive from the main hotel zone Snowshed base and shuttles serving the condos. I do not know the extent of the shuttle system is at Okemo, Ludlow, but is also only five minutes from the base. At Mount Snow, the Moov can you take in West Dover or Wilmington if you want to hit up Pancho seafood, the brewery in Wilmington, or deacon in West Dover.
If shopping is a major concern for non-skiers, consider staying in Manchester and make the drive to Stratton, Bromley, Magic or during the day. In and around the Manchester area non-skiers can also ski at Wild Wings, snowshoe on the trail of length in the reserve of the Equinox, or the tons of other trails in the region. There is also a spa at the Equinox.
