Snow Golf is a game based on golf, but played in the snow (or ice) instead of grass. The "green" are called "white" and have an ice surface.

As for the golf classic at the origin of snow golf is thought to be the game of Dutch "Kolf" which has been played since the Middle Ages. Kolf testimony as a popular pastime in winter comes from many paintings of the 17th century by renowned artist such as Aert van der Neer or Hendrick Avercamp.

The discovery of modern snow golf is credited by Rudyard Kipling, living in Vermont in the 1890s who was an avid golfer. While writing his famous book The Jungle Book, Kipling relaxed by playing golf with snow during winter.

The annual World Ice Golf Championship was held during the World Gilf nothernmost Ice Shelf near Uummannaq, Greenland since 1997. The course is shaped by the new moving ice every year and the game is very dependent on weather conditions. Competitors are allowed to handicap 36 or less. Because of extreme temperatures clubs with graphite shafts are not recommended.

The first Snowgolf Championship was held in Argentina at Cerro Castor, Ushuaia since 2007 by Josed Garca­a Daroca.

The very first World Championship for amateurs Snowgolf was conducted in January 2007 in Abtenau, Austria. Adi Hengstberger with Germany, the first World Champion Snowgolf was founded. The event is hailed as a major event for celebrities and sponsored by the Austrian state of Salzburg in the tourism plan. Snowgolf second World Championship was held in Obertauern, Austria. Thank you to the "Million Dollar Putt" contest, the official championship golf on the title of snow was the biggest prize for amateur golf tournament in the world until now. Alongside amateur competitors, many big names of sport and showbiz tried to sink their "Million Dollar Putt" for important causes - "Wings for Life" (Spinal Cord Research Foundation) and "Eagles Charity Golf Club. In the end nobody could pull the putt great, and the prize is not claimed until the next championship. Adi Hengstberger (D) has retained its 2007 title. The other finalists were David Tristan (Philippines) and Peter Dobrowolsky (Austria). Women's World Champion was Sarah Ha¶lzl (Austria).
