Vancouver Island Conference Centre Nanaimo Canada The Vancouver Island Conference Centre in downtown Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, is an exciting venue for meetings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, receptions and other events. Currently nearing completion, the New Nanaimo Centre is scheduled to open in early 2008 with 38,000 square feet available in a variety of modules, the ballroom at 13,697 square feet of many small rooms that can accommodate groups of less than a hundred.
The ballroom is at the heart of the complex, with seating for 1300 people in theater style or 720 when set up a classroom. As much as 1,400 people can attend receptions here, while 960 can be seated at banquets. The ballroom can be divided into four rooms of different sizes, and just across the corridor of five small meeting rooms for specialized use. The 7368 square foot conference pre-function area connects everything.
An elevated walkway joins the main building for the 200-seat Shaw Auditorium with the other four small meeting rooms, two upstairs and two downstairs. One feature of the Auditorium building is the terrace on the seafront with splendid views of the harbor. Flexibility and convenience have been built in these facilities on the state of the art.
The new home of the Nanaimo Museum is at street level directly below the ballroom in the main building. A row of outlets upscale face historic Commercial Street. A 140-room Marriott Hotel Nanaimo will be built next to the Centre at a later date. Currently conference visitors can choose from three-star Coast Bastion Inn a block away from the center, near the Best Western Dorchester Hotel, and many other hotels and motels. A new Ramada Hotel is nearing completion on Terminal Avenue North, 10 minute walk.
Nanaimo is the main travel and service center for central and northern Vancouver Island. Car ferries from Vancouver arrive at Departure Bay and Duke Point near the city every hour. In addition there are seaplane flights from Vancouver International Airport and downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo Harbour, within walking distance of the new downtown Nanaimo. Rail, bus, and a modern highway link Nanaimo to the capital of British Columbia, Victoria.
The Vancouver Island Conference Centre is located in the heart of downtown Nanaimo with the picturesque fishing port of a jet of colored stone. A large mall is just around the corner, and many pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops are within sight of the construction.
