Mice Rabies

Mice RabiesWhat is the risk to the U.S. for mice with rabies?

This is a follow-up question that I posted before. Was the risk factor for mice with rabies. DO NOT RESPOND IF YOU DO NOT KNOW! I hate people who do that. (PS) This is a pet mouse.

If it's in a pet store, then it is extremely low. If you caught a wild mouse, but then you have to let go. It will be much happier living free in nature.

Hantavirus ... not rabies ..... upper south-west.

3. Q: What is the risk of rabies from squirrels, mice, rats and other rodents?

A: Small rodents (such as squirrels, rats, mice, hamsters, Guinea pigs, gerbils and chipmunks,) and lagomorphs (such as rabbits and hares) are almost never found to be infected with rabies and were not known to cause rabies among humans in the United States. Bites by these animals are generally not considered a risk of rabies unless the animal was sick or behaving in an unusual manner and rabies is widespread in your area. However, from 1985 to 1994, woodchucks accounted for 86% of 368 cases of rabies among rodents reported to CDC. Beavers or woodchucks (Marmota monax) are rodents that can often be subject to health department because of a suspicion of rabies. In all cases involving rodents, the Ministry of Health provincial or local authorities should be consulted before a decision is made to initiate postexposure prophylaxis (PEP).
