Mexican Hat Lodge

Mexican Hat LodgeThe Place February 08 - Londolozi Safari Lodge, South Africa

My sister and I arrived at the airstrip at Londolozi on a beautiful warm day and clear. We felt rather jaded after a long flight from London, but were greeted by a very welcome sight - Bronny waving happily with Chris, our guide, a Mexican-style mustache and tattoos unusual.

We were brought to the Tree Lodge and had delicious champagne almost immediately. We were greeted by Duncan, the director of Tree Lodge, wearing a pair of shorts alarmingly small lime-green and a pink cowboy hat. The laugh was infectious, we felt at home straight away and we knew we were going to have fun!

Duncan led us to our luxurious suite - a perfect combination of nature and luxury. The eye is immediately drawn to the view from the massive glass windows - the private pool, sala and terrace and beyond that for trees. The rooms were absolutely everything we can imagine and was very nicely decorated. Although we were reluctant to leave this haven of tranquility that we did not want to miss the afternoon game drive so quickly unpacked, changed and joined our guests for tea before leaving.

The reader of the afternoon / evening we gave a fantastic overview Londolozi and Chris was chatty and informative. Unfortunately, his mustache is gone! Our tracker, Jeremiah, was excellent. We saw a lot of play but the highlight was seeing three lions and nine grandchildren hungry.

Return to Tree Lodge we had a delicious dinner and fine wines selected by the expert - Duncan! Before eating we were told the menu by Petunia - we did not know if she was in charge of the kitchen, but its introduction was a treat. Another treatment was to follow. The Londolozi Ladies Choir has appeared, as if from nowhere, to entertain us and Duncan threw herself into the dance in a more enthusiastic and energetic with two of these ladies. We laughed until we cried.

When we returned to our room we were delighted to find gift wrapped gifts waiting for us on our pillows. Very spoiled and very much appreciated.

We both slept very well in large comfortable beds with beautiful linen. It was as if the middle of the night when we had our wake up call 5:00 Tea with Earl Grey tea and some Rusk.

Chris decided that we would find a leopard. He did not disappoint - we saw a beautiful young man. We also saw the lions we had seen the previous evening, a herd of buffalo wallowing, giraffes, zebras, elephants and many money. There is no shortage of Londolozi game.

We got back to Tree Lodge brunch followed by a visit to the local village where the staff live Londolozi. Matthew, the butler of our houses, acted as our guide and we particularly appreciated the nursery where we were greeted with enthusiasm by the children.

After a quick pit stop at the store we had a lovely yoga session with a private teacher wonderfully patient pool. It was followed by a fabulous massage in our room. We had lunch on our patio before heading to our new player playing 16:00.

Tonight we saw a rather dramatic kill. A bullet water baby took refuge in the dam near the flag to escape a hyena in the prosecution shall be taken by a crocodile in a frightening strike fast.

It was quite late when we returned to Tree Lodge and we felt a little tired after a full of action, but beautiful day. We strolled back to our room with a view to change for dinner and were delighted to find the table set and lanterns ready for us to eat in our private sala.

After dinner (no peace for the wicked!), We met Duncan, as expected, Varty Lodge. Bronny would join us on a walk in the moonlight with his brother, Boyd, and some other guides, but unfortunately we Bronny said she had other commitments.
