1. Queenstown in the South Island is considered the "adventure capital of the world." You can bungee jumping or take a jet boat ride exciting, go heli-skiing, skydiving, fly-by -wire, and sledding to name a few. Both bungy jumping and jet boating were invented in New Zealand. A preferred option for families is the increasing number of apartments. The apartments are generally rented as opposed to a hotel stay, but the advantage is that they provide more space and can be rented which means you do not eat all the time so save money to spend on sightseeing.

Then we have motels. Generally speaking motels offer more space than hotels and tend to be cleaned every day, but tend not to be as luxurious. Motels often provide a separate room or two and sometimes cooking facilities. You would need to check this when booking.

There is also a growing number of Bed and Breakfast. These vary considerably and may vary from 5 star establishments pretty basic. If you enjoy getting to know the locals, "the B & B could be good for you. Generally breakfast will be provided as part of the price. Dinner is by special arrangement only.

If you're on a budget there are lots of backpackers to choose from which are centrally located and well priced.

3. New Zealand has a great culinary landscape. Being a small island surrounded by sea, there are a multitude of seafood specialties on offer. The ocean around New Zealand with cold water of Antarctica being relatively close. Cold water fish tend to have a delicate flavor. As the fish of the sea, there are large lakes which are trout and salmon breeding grounds. Trout can be caught commercially so there is no risk of running out of supplies. New Zealand is also quite big on the game and most of the more upscale restaurants have a game option in the menu. You will find that there are restaurants for every taste and budget. New Zealand may be far removed geographically from the rest of the world but he is quick to adopt new types and styles of food and kiwi ingenuity mentioned earlier in the article is illustrated in the food served in restaurants. There are coffee shops and cafes, wine bars serving food, pubs with restaurants, restaurants in the family, buffet and the more upscale al la carte options.

There is also a thriving wine industry in New Zealand. Wherever you go you will see many vineyards and wine products are of superior quality. If wine is your thing, you will not be disappointed. Marlborough at the top of the South Island is one of the oldest wine regions and best known, most famous for the production of Sauvignon Blanc. New Zealand is also becoming well known for producing excellent Pinot Black, a very difficult wine to produce.
