Laundry Bag With Wheels

Laundry Bag With WheelsHow can I help a homeless person?

Last night, my husband I went to the laundromat to do laundry. Usually we go to during the day or early evening. However, last night we did not until almost 23 hours. When we went in I saw a man sitting at a table. He was dressed in layers and had a backpack on wheels and a Dollar General bag with him. It looked as if he had slept. I had seen before, either reading or a few times it was really cold when we stop and sit a bit then leave. I never thought anything about it because there are places to shop near the laundromat with him and he had bags. I assumed he had stopped to warm to his home on foot. Last night I realized he had no home. I still feel horrible and I do not know what to do about it. Currently, we have not really afford to help. But there must be something I can do. I think it bothers me greatly because my husband and I and even my mother and my sister were so close to that. My husband and I were married. Before we were married, I lived with my mother and my sister. My mother and I worked for the same company. We lost our jobs. Fortunately, my husband and I had just bought and apartments. The building is paid for and he had two empty apartments. My husband is overseas and unable to work until her papers come through. Its amazing how one day you have a pension plan to a bank account money home more beautiful clothes and they worry very little the next day you do not have jobs, bills etc. If we don ' had not decided to buy the building, we could never have afforded a house payment or rent. The other reason I think it hits home so close is that man is in his early 20s, it is my age. I do not know how to help. I was going to offer him food, but I saw he had some. I was going to offer him a drink, but he had that. I do not really have money to give (we went shopping and I had things with me) I saw the bathroom was toilet paper so I left a roll . I thought our house to offer him at least overnight. But then I worried I did not know what kind of person he was or what might happen if anything. Any advice on what I can do?

You know ... Sucks, but true. Most people in your past situation (job loss and homelessness) are either staying in shelters or with other family members. It's a tough decision of what to do if you see a homeless person and want to help. Maybe some of them would really benefit from help, but unfortunately the majority of them want to be the way they are. When you're homeless, you know where the help is ... such as kitchens and shelters, and others. If he wanted to be there, chances are it would be.

We live in a very small town where everybody is losing their job, but I do not see families on the street. They are in places to get help. Where they qualify to enter. There are so many resources out there to help. The next time you see it, just ask if they know of places where he would be able to get a hot meal or a place to sleep. The only way you can see if there is one that would accept real help is to ask, and then make a suggestion.

Unfortunately, most people like to lie to you for your sympathy (aka money ..) and then tell someone else. We must try to distinguish truth from falsehood, and since you know nothing about him, which is not easy.

I am a person who enjoys helping people as well. But I abandoned that path long ago when I realized that most people like him get to where they are in life, and alcoholism and hopeless anyway. Some people, you can not help, even if you wish.

I understand your empathy, but before you jump in to help do research on homelessness and see what kind of services are available in your area.
