Late Deals Hotels EdinburghEdinburgh film: Marathons and races in the Scottish capital

Each year, many residents of Edinburgh and visitors lacing up their running shoes and take to the streets of the city for its various annual and runs marathons. Some run the competition, while others do so quietly. All are part of something big: an effort to raise awareness and fundraising for various causes.

Bupa Great Winter Run - open to riders aged 14 and over - Kickoff of the city chain of events running in early January with a 5K in the beautiful Holyrood Park. Many people running for charity, while others are open for a very active year for themselves. The event also includes the Bupa Great Winter Run Junior - covering 2.5 km and is open to youth ages 7-13 - and Bupa Great Edinburgh International X Country Run - best for runners of half distance.

The Bupa Great Edinburgh Run - a 10km race held in early May - is perhaps one of the most popular trails in the city, due to the fact that the route takes riders past some of the most emblematic of Edinburgh. The event annually attracts some 10,000 runners and is open to participants at all levels of fitness. And, while registration is not required for this event, those planning to raise money for a charity or running the competition must register before the execution.

Next in line for the year is the Edinburgh Marathon, held in late May and is expected to attract about 16,500 riders this year. Measuring at 26.2 miles is a full marathon, and therefore attracts runners at fairly good physical condition. The organizers offer training tips and fundraising ideas to participants, while participating in numerous efforts to unite the two kingdoms. This is a Cancer Research UK event, raising funds to support research for a cure against cancer.

For those who are not quite ready for a marathon, half marathon Scotland - also a Cancer Research UK event - held on the same day as the Edinburgh Marathon. It starts a little earlier than the marathon in Edinburgh, and ends at Musselburgh Racecourse, Edinburgh. He sees some 25,000 runners come out each year, and another one of the most popular racing events of the city.

And finally, Kilomathon Scotland - another marathon measuring 26.3 miles - is the latest addition to short-famous Edinburgh and marathons. It takes place in early October, and is organized by the same group that brings together the Edinburgh Marathon for Cancer Research UK.

With a race event according to each level of fitness and racing experience, it is not surprising short and Edinburgh marathons to attract as many people each year. The events also a great opportunity for sightseeing in the city, whether before or after the event running. Remember to book your hotel in Edinburgh early if you plan to run in one of these events, as rooms tend to fill quickly with the riders and supporters event.
