skiing in Vermont in March .. Book now or wait? We anticipate a late March (non-holiday week) vacation to one of the great ski areas in Vermont, perhaps Stowe, Okemo, Stratton, Jay Peak. To ski on the ski slopes outside housing, with prices quoted are very steep, like $ 1000 + per day for a nice two-room or small suite. In the current economic climate, is there a chance that prices will fall in the date approaches? I'm not an avid skier, and thus do not know the ropes on how to find a better deal, book early or take my chances and wait? A related issue - the end of March, we thought we should go further north better conditions. Is this a reasonable assumption?
Thank you.
You pay for a lot, maybe not for Killington, but for Jay def. I'm going next week for Jay day tens of skiing with an on / off condo with all amenities for something like $ 375. Book online now, but look for another agreement.
I rarely stay on the property. $ 1,000 / day in late March VT is money too, even if you have found accommodation, passes and 3 meals a day for 2 people. Jay is $ 62/person in midweek. I would not pay more than $ 354 for 2 days right now, let alone at the end of March.
As someone who spent 6 years living in Vermont, my sympathies with the innkeepers and restaurant owners who depend on tourism to put food on their table 365/days year. I take serious account of the stations I spend my money. Those who import many workers and high prices are still less likely to get more of my money. When my money spent in VT is used to pay the salaries of general types of business in Colorado or is returned to Bulgaria, I feel that I'm bypassing the local population. Many of these people are my friends and former neighbors with whom I used to do business. Finally, my own money would be to me, and I guess mine is a hard habit to break.
Regardless of my preaching forum, I say shop around and find a better offer. If you want all the amenities such as a condo with a spa and a full maid service, then you'll pay out the wazoo. If you want to ski, meet interesting people, and eat well so stay off property and trim your comfort ... after all, on the ski.
