2.0 4 cyl. Ford Mercury engines no good for long trips? I'm about to buy the Mercury Mystique with a 4 cylinder 2.0 engine. It is functioning. I will travel 150 miles once a month with my wife and two children and a large duffle bag in the truk. Would it have engine problems HANDLING that burden? I know I should go with a V-6 when in doubt, but I do not want to spend more money if I did not do it. Thank you for your comments.
You do not set any speed records, but he must bear the burden well, and get pretty decent gas mileage. You did not mention what year was the car. Make sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb. Check all fluids, brakes, a / c, etc. If you purchase from a private person and not a broker, ask them if they have a maintenance record for the car. Good luck.
I had a Ford Probe with the same engine and it lasted me 300.000 miles. it is a good engine and as long as it is and has been assumed that you have to do much.
