The socio-cultural and economic life of Festac Town Feast of town commonly known as the city FESTAC is the largest single housing estate in Nigeria and perhaps the entire West Africa. The field derives its name from the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) held in Nigeria in 1977.
The participants of this festival were welcomed in this purpose built Estate. The sponsor is the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), established by Decree (Act) No. 40 of the Federal Government of Nigeria to help provide affordable housing available to Nigerians, therefore, the mission statement of the Federal Housing Authority which is :
"To be the leader in providing affordable and quality housing in Nigeria and to do everything possible to facilitate home ownership for all Nigerians"
The Federal Housing Authority is the developer of the city, management and maintenance is invested in them. Festac is composed of seven communities and occupies an approximate area of 1770 ha. (4425 acres)
Festac Town is located at a distance of about 10km west of Lagos-Badagry highway which forms the southern boundary of the city. The artificial channel that receives the storm water Festival City and is now part of the lagoon that forms the boundary between the city and the housing scheme Amuwo Odofin of Lagos State Properties and Development Corporation (LSDPC) on the eastern shore " (see Planning and Research Monograph by the Ministry of Housing, Federal Housing Administration, 1985)
Festac Town on the west shares a border with the trade fair complex on the north and approximately 2,500 meters of Badagry Road. The city is served by major road transport makes the city very easy to access, traffic distribution is therefore guaranteed. infrastructure networks include wastewater, storm water drainage, power supply, street lighting.
Festac Town was established with regard to high social or community life of the so-called being of residents. This explains the presence of FHA staff club, FHA Lawn Tennis Club, Club etc. Baft Festac town locals through an association called Festac Town Residents Association. Blocks, farm, roads also hold regular meetings where the well-being of residents is discussed. The youth of the city are very dynamic in recent times are known to organize "carnivals" each year, most notably those of 22 Road, Route 512 and 721 path among many others. The occupants of the city of Festac have implemented projects as a result of self-help such as Festac Town Residents Association, digging wells, sinking of the security drill, the city etc.
The method used to buffer the city along Badagry Express Road Festac from other developments that channel structures began to appear on this buffer zone.

Festac Town is showing signs of dilapidation of infrastructure, general congestion, population explosion, lack of strict adherence to master plan proposals, places reserved for green spaces have been allocated for the erection of buildings and other structures.
