Hotel Pennsylvania New York

I plan to make a trip to New York and stay at the Hotel Pennsylvania, but I read the terrible reviews. Is this hotel really so bad? They have renovated in 2007 so I'm looking for some updated comments from those who have themselves been there ever since. I'm not going to sleep, so I do not expect to be too luxurious. The location is the most ideal place to stay in Manhattan, is why I booked.

"Great location, 2 blocks from subway and Penn Station. Easy walk, 9 blocks short time sqm. Bathroom clean. Mirror door bathroom should be cleaned, beds are good, no back pain.
