Certainly not saying that Lapa operation suggested in another answer. It would be very dangerous. Copacabana in a few hotels ranging from cheap to week and very pleasant. Copacabana is also very convenient to stay because it is close to most tourist activities. Copacabana beach is not the best though. It is dirty and not very nice. Ipanema Beach is OK, but the best beach in Barra. There are excellent hotels in Barra now. Sheraton Barra is ABOUR $ 300/night and there are other hotels that are beautiful residence less than $ 100 per night. Try Casa del Mar, which I use often.

too many options, from R $ 9/day (shared room and shower located in Lapa) to R $ 150/day (air-conditioned room with private bathroom, good location).

The cheapest option is not acceptable for people who care about hygiene or safety.

I do not like Copacabana or Lapa.

I must confess that I do not go to Copacabana, and can not understand what makes a tourist to go. Polluted, crowded, terrible traffic, noisy and full of prostitutes.

Lapa is great for nightlife, or to purchase antiques. Not a place I recommend you stay ...
