The Making Of A Name: The history of Motorola at a glance Motorola is a global leader in electronic systems and wireless communications. It was founded as the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation by brothers Paul and Joseph Galvin in 1928 in Chicago. Its modern name brand was introduced in a car radio at low cost in 1930. The company has rapidly expanded its activities in the homemade radios, phonographs, transmitters and receivers of the police, two way radios and, in 1947, his first television set.
Birth of the famous world brand
The 30's decade saw the explosion in sales of the radio because it was the cheapest form of entertainment and information during these early days when communication was still in its infancy. In 1930, the Galvin Manufacturing Corp. has introduced his car which became immensely popular in terms of sales. This gave the public the enjoyment of listening to their favorite radio programs when you travel.
Due to the popularity of their car, Paul Galvin has decided to give it a memorable name. Since the major brands in those days ended with the suffix-popular, and "ola," as the Victrola, and Crayola Shinola, Galvin combined "engine" (car) and "ola" (which connotes sound) and created the name of Motorola. The name is meant to suggest sound in motion. This brand became a household word popular in 1947, the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation was renamed after his car low cost.
Of radios for mobile phones
The company expects the huge demand for transistors in the future. They have become a leading manufacturer transistor having received a license for the transistor design of Bell Laboratories in 1958. This technology will soon open the way for development of microprocessors whose company sold to computer manufacturers in 1974.
The company has continued to work in partnership with Apple Computer and IBM in 1993 to develop and commercialize the first RISC (Reduced instruction set computer) chip for consumers. The company, however, gained more success as a manufacturer of embedded microprocessors, which are almost always present in household appliances, video game consoles, pagers, personal computers and mobile devices.
This company is a pioneer in research and development of mobile telephony systems. After the financial plan during the late 1990s and early 2000s, the company sold its semiconductor business to focus on mobile phones and network equipment.
